Opox-CV 200 Tablet is a ""broad-spectrum"" antibiotic used to treat tough bacterial infections, including pneumonia, severe sinus infections, and certain urinary tract infections (UTIs). It is often prescribed when an infection is suspected to be resistant to simpler antibiotics. By combining two powerful ingredients, it ensures a higher effectiveness against a wide variety of bacteria.
This medication contains Cefpodoxime, a cephalosporin antibiotic, and Clavulanic Acid. Cefpodoxime kills bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell walls. Some bacteria produce a ""shield"" (beta-lactamase) to destroy antibiotics; Clavulanic Acid works by neutralizing this shield, allowing the Cefpodoxime to do its job effectively.
Take this tablet with food to increase the amount of medicine your body absorbs and to prevent stomach upset. It is vital to complete the entire course, usually 5 to 14 days, even if you feel completely better after 48 hours. Stopping early can lead to the infection returning and becoming much harder to treat. Inform your doctor if you are allergic to penicillin, as you might also be allergic to this medication.
