Composition

Ofloxacin (200 Mg) + Ornidazole (500 Mg)

Olox-OZ Tablet is used to treat mixed infections caused by bacteria and parasites, most often affecting the digestive system and urinary tract, helping relieve symptoms such as diarrhoea, stomach cramps and fever.

It contains ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, and ornidazole, an antimicrobial that acts against parasites and certain bacteria. Take it as prescribed, and complete the full course even if your symptoms improve within a day or two.

Staying well hydrated, especially if you have diarrhoea, and eating light, easily digestible food supports recovery alongside this medicine. Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least two days after the last dose.

Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor about any history of tendon problems or epilepsy. Report joint or tendon pain, or any unusual nervous system symptoms, to your doctor promptly.

Olox-OZ Tablet is used to treat bacterial and parasitic infections such as infectious diarrhoea, dysentery and pelvic inflammatory disease, along with certain urinary tract and skin infections.

Uses of Olox-OZ Tablet are:

Digestive Infections: Treats infectious diarrhoea, dysentery and intestinal infections.
Urinary Tract Infections: Clears bacterial infections of the urinary tract.
Gum and Skin Infections: Treats gum problems and skin infections.
Pelvic Infections: Manages pelvic inflammatory disease caused by mixed bacterial and parasitic infection.

Swallow the whole tablet with a glass of water.
Do not crush or chew the tablet, as this may affect the way the medication is absorbed in the body.
Do not change your dose of Olox-OZ Tablet or take them more often than prescribed.

Olox-OZ Tablet is taken orally.

Olox-OZ Tablet may cause some side effects that are usually mild and go away as your body adjusts to the medicine.

A few common side effects of Olox-OZ Tablet are:

Digestive: Feeling sick (nausea) and vomiting.
Neurological: Headache and dizziness.
Skin: Itching.

If side effects do not improve or become serious, speak to your doctor right away.

Management Of Side Effects:

Some side effects are temporary and harmless, and get resolved by discontinuing the tablet. These may not require medical attention. To combat gastrointestinal side effects, take this tablet with food. If you experience any severe or persistent side effects due to this tablet, consult your doctor.

Olox-OZ Tablet contains the following components:

Ofloxacin (200 mg): It is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits the bacterial enzyme DNA gyrase. This enzyme is essential for DNA replication and repair. By interfering with this process, ofloxacin disrupts bacterial DNA synthesis and inhibits bacterial growth. This makes it effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria.
Ornidazole (500 mg): It is an antimicrobial agent with anti-parasitic properties belonging to the nitroimidazole class. It undergoes chemical changes inside bacterial and protozoa cells that generate some compounds. These compounds interfere with DNA replication and damage the genetic material of the microorganisms. As a result, ornidazole is effective against bacteria and protozoa.

Pregnancy

Olox-OZ Tablet is not recommended to be used in pregnancy. Inform your doctor while this tablet is prescribed to you during pregnancy.

Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding mothers are not recommended to take Olox-OZ Tablet. It may pass to the infant through breast milk. Inform your doctor while this tablet is prescribed to you during breastfeeding.

Alcohol

Alcohol is not recommended while taking Olox-OZ Tablet. It can add to dizziness due to this tablet. It can also worsen the side effects of this medication.

Liver

Olox-OZ Tablet should be cautiously used in patients with severe liver disease, such as liver cirrhosis. If you have a severe liver problem, consult your doctor before taking this tablet.

Kidney

When taking Olox-OZ Tablet, patients with kidney disease should exercise caution. Dose adjustments may be required in such patients. If you have kidney dysfunction, it is better to consult your doctor before taking this tablet.

Use In Driving And Operating Machinery

Olox-OZ Tablet may affect your mental or physical abilities to operate machinery or drive. After taking the tablet, you may experience dizziness. Therefore, avoiding any attentive task is recommended after taking this medicine.

Allergy

If you are allergic to ofloxacin, ornidazole or any other ingredient in Olox-OZ Tablet, you should not take it. Read the label and check the ingredients in the tablet to avoid allergic reactions.

Children

Olox-OZ Tablet is not intended for children below 18 years of age.

Older Patients

Older patients with kidney dysfunction, liver impairment, and heart problems should take this tablet cautiously. Elderly patients taking corticosteroids should also cautiously take this tablet. They may also take other medications that can interact with Olox-OZ Tablet. Consult your doctor and discuss your prescription medications before taking this tablet.

Drug-Drug Interactions

Olox-OZ Tablet can interact with medications, including:

Antidiabetic agents such as insulin and glibenclamide. The concomitant use can result in low blood sugar.
Stomach acid reducers such as cimetidine. The concomitant use results in increased blood concentration of this tablet.
Immunosuppressants such as cyclosporine and methotrexate.The concominant use results in increased blood concentration of these medications.
Antigout medications such as probenecid. Using probenecid together with this tablet can impact the elimination of these medicines through the kidneys.
Bronchodilators such as theophylline. The concomitant use can increase the levels of theophylline in blood.
Anticoagulants such as warfarin. The concomitant use can increase the time it takes for blood to clot.
Antiarrhythmics such as quinidine and disopyramide. This tablet should be avoided in patients using these heart medications. It can aggravate the existing heart condition.
Medicines or dietary supplements containing iron or zinc. It can affect the absorption of this tablet.
Sucralfate used for stomach ulcers. It can affect the absorption of this tablet.
Antacids containing magnesium or aluminium. These medications can affect the absorption of this tablet.
The concomitant use of corticosteroids may increase the risk of swelling of the tendons with pain and tenderness.
Anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen or diclofenac. The concomitant use can make you more prone to fits.

Drug-Disease Interactions

Olox-OZ Tablet can interact with diseases, including:

History of seizures: This tablet should be cautiously used in patients with a history of seizures and epilepsy. It may rarely cause fits and aggravate the existing condition.
Liver impairment: It may aggravate the existing liver impairment.
Kidney impairment: This tablet may cause kidney problems and aggravate the condition. A lower dose may be required in patients with kidney impairment.
Tendonitis: This tablet may increase the risk of tendonitis and tendon rupture.
Low blood potassium (hypokalemia): This tablet may exacerbate irregular heartbeats in patients with low blood potassium.

Daily Dose

Take Olox-OZ Tablet as directed by your doctor. The dosage may change based on individual factors such as the severity of the condition and response to treatment. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and not exceed it without consulting your doctor.

Over Dose

If you take an excessive amount of Olox-OZ Tablet by accident, it is essential to get immediate medical attention from your doctor or nearby hospital. Symptoms of an overdose include confusion and dizziness.

Missed Dose

If you forgot to take Olox-OZ Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If the time for the next dosage is close, it is recommended to skip the missed one now and resume your regular dosage pattern. Never increase your dosage without consulting your doctor.

Protect it from light and moisture.
Keep Olox-OZ Tablet away from children.

Drink clear fluids like water, oral rehydration solutions, and diluted fruit juices. You can make an oral rehydration solution by mixing salt, sugar, and water to replenish electrolytes.
Dairy products and fatty foods can worsen diarrhoea. Avoid these until your symptoms improve.
Foods with natural probiotics, like yoghurt, can help restore the balance of beneficial gut bacteria.
Eat smaller, more frequent meals to avoid stomach discomfort.
Both caffeine and alcohol can contribute to dehydration, so it's best to avoid them during diarrhoea.
