Mupicip Ointment is used to treat localised bacterial skin infections, such as impetigo (crusty sores), infected hair follicles and minor infected wounds that have become red and painful.
It contains mupirocin, an antibiotic that works differently from most other antibiotics by blocking the specific enzyme bacteria need to build their proteins, which stops the bacteria from surviving or reproducing. Clean and dry the area before applying a small amount of ointment as prescribed, and cover with a bandage if needed.
Keeping the affected area clean, avoiding scratching or picking at the sores, and washing your hands before and after application help stop the infection from spreading to other parts of the body or to other people.
Continue using the ointment for the full duration prescribed, even if the skin looks better, to ensure all the bacteria are gone. Tell your doctor if the infection does not improve or if you notice worsening symptoms.
