Lupase 10000 Tablet is used to replace digestive enzymes in people whose pancreas does not make enough of them (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency). It is a single-ingredient medicine containing pancreatin, a mixture of the enzymes lipase, protease and amylase, and belongs to a group of medicines called digestive enzyme supplements.
This medicine is used in conditions such as chronic pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis and after pancreatic surgery. It helps the body digest fats, proteins and carbohydrates, easing oily or bulky stools, bloating and weight loss. Take it with every meal and snack, swallowed whole with water, without crushing or chewing; your doctor will adjust the dose to your meals and symptoms.
Follow the diet advised by your doctor or dietitian, drink enough fluids and avoid alcohol if you have pancreatitis. Do not reduce the fat in your diet unless advised, as the enzyme dose is matched to your meals.
This medicine is made from pork pancreas, so tell your doctor if you are allergic to pork or have concerns about pork products. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have bowel narrowing, Crohn's disease or gout, and about other medicines you take. Very high doses, especially in children with cystic fibrosis, have been linked to bowel narrowing, so report unusual stomach pain, severe constipation or vomiting. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
