CompositionLinares M Tablet is used to control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes when metformin alone, together with diet and exercise, is not enough. It is a combination medicine containing linagliptin 2.5mg, a DPP-4 inhibitor, and metformin 500mg, a biguanide.
Linagliptin helps the body release more insulin after meals, while metformin reduces the sugar made by the liver and helps the body use insulin better. Take it daily with meals, as prescribed, which also reduces stomach upset.
A balanced diet, limiting sugary foods and drinks, regular physical activity and keeping a healthy weight are essential. Check your blood sugar as advised.
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, heart failure, a history of pancreatitis, or drink alcohol heavily, and about other medicines you take, especially sulfonylureas or insulin, which increase the risk of low blood sugar. Your doctor may pause it before surgery or scans using contrast dye, and if you become dehydrated or very unwell with vomiting or diarrhoea. Long-term metformin use can lower vitamin B12, so your doctor may check it. Do not take it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Seek medical help for severe stomach pain spreading to the back, blistering skin, or joint pain that is severe. Seek urgent help for unusual muscle pain, fast breathing, stomach pain, feeling very cold or extreme tiredness, which can rarely signal a serious condition called lactic acidosis. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
