Gudcef-CV 200 Tablet is used to treat bacterial infections of the throat and tonsils, ears, sinuses, lungs, urinary tract and skin, as well as certain sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhoea. It is a combination antibiotic containing cefpodoxime and clavulanic acid, and belongs to the classes of medicines called cephalosporin antibiotics and beta-lactamase inhibitors.
This medicine works by cefpodoxime stopping bacteria from building their cell wall, which kills them, while clavulanic acid blocks the enzymes that some bacteria use to break down the antibiotic. This allows it to work against certain resistant bacteria. It does not work against viral infections such as the common cold or flu.
Take the tablet with food, which helps absorption and reduces stomach upset, and complete the full prescribed course even if you feel better. Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache and skin rash are common effects.
Tell your doctor about any allergies, especially to penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics, and about any kidney problems, other medicines you take, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before starting. Report severe or persistent diarrhoea to your doctor. Do not stop taking it unless your doctor advises you to do so.
