CompositionDytor 40 Tablet 10 is used to reduce fluid build-up (oedema) caused by heart failure, kidney disease or liver disease. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing torsemide 40mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called loop diuretics (water tablets).
This medicine helps the kidneys remove extra salt and water, easing swelling of the legs and tummy and breathlessness caused by fluid on the lungs. The 40mg strength is mainly used for fluid build-up; lower strengths are usually used for high blood pressure. Take it in the morning, so you do not need to pass urine at night, as prescribed.
Following a low-salt diet as advised by your doctor helps control swelling. Weigh yourself daily at the same time and tell your doctor about sudden weight changes, and follow any fluid limits you have been given.
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have kidney failure with no urine output, severe liver disease, low potassium or sodium, gout, diabetes, difficulty passing urine, or low blood pressure, and about other medicines you take, especially digoxin, lithium, painkillers and other blood pressure medicines. Your doctor will check your salts and kidney function with blood tests. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Contact your doctor if you have extreme thirst, dizziness or fainting, muscle cramps or weakness, or an irregular heartbeat. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
