This medicine works by blocking histamine, a substance released during allergic reactions, which reduces inflammation and other allergy symptoms. It also helps relieve skin allergies such as hives (urticaria), reactions to insect bites and pet allergies. Take the tablet as prescribed, with or without food, at the same time each day.
Minimising exposure to known allergy triggers such as dust, pollen and pet fur, and keeping living spaces clean, can help reduce flare-ups alongside this medicine.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, as your dose may need to be adjusted. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medicine affects you, as it can cause drowsiness.
