Apixator 5 Tablet is used to prevent and treat deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism and blood clots associated with atrial fibrillation. It contains apixaban, a factor Xa inhibitor, part of the anticoagulant class of medicines.
Apixaban works by blocking factor Xa, a protein the body needs to form blood clots, which reduces the risk of clots forming in the veins, lungs or heart while also lowering the risk of stroke in people with atrial fibrillation.
Take this tablet at the same times each day, with or without food, exactly as your doctor prescribes, and never miss or double a dose without medical advice, since consistent blood levels are important for this medicine to work safely.
Tell your doctor immediately if you notice unusual bleeding or bruising, black or bloody stools, blood in your urine, or a headache that will not go away, as these can be signs of serious bleeding. Do not stop this medicine without medical advice, and tell your doctor before any surgery or dental work, since your treatment may need to be adjusted.
