Apigat 5 Tablet is used in adults to prevent stroke and dangerous blood clots caused by non-valvular atrial fibrillation, and to treat and prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). It is also used to prevent blood clots after hip or knee replacement surgery.
It contains apixaban, a Factor Xa inhibitor that reduces the blood's ability to clot without the need for routine blood monitoring. Take it as prescribed, at the same time each day, with or without food. Do not stop taking this medicine without medical advice, as stopping suddenly can increase the risk of blood clots and stroke, particularly in people with atrial fibrillation.
Keeping all follow-up appointments and informing every healthcare provider, including dentists, that you are taking this medicine before any procedure helps ensure safe treatment. Being alert to any unusual bruising or bleeding and reporting it promptly supports safe, ongoing use of this medicine.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have any bleeding disorders, severe kidney or liver disease, mechanical heart valves, or are taking other anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicines. It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Seek urgent medical help if you experience signs of serious bleeding, such as blood in your urine or stools, or unusual bruising.
