It combines amlodipine and hydrochlorothiazide, which lower blood pressure through different mechanisms, and controlling blood pressure helps reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and other complications.
Amlodipine relaxes blood vessel muscle directly, while hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic, helps the kidneys remove excess salt and water, and together the two medicines give stronger blood pressure control than either alone.
Take this tablet with or without food, ideally in the morning to reduce nighttime toilet trips, exactly as your doctor prescribes, and continue regularly.
Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, gout, or diabetes. Because it contains a diuretic, your doctor may monitor your kidney function and blood salts, and this medicine is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
