Zen Retard-200 Tablet is a medicine used to manage epileptic seizures. It belongs to a group of medicines known as anticonvulsants and antiepileptics.
It contains Carbamazepine, which works by stabilising overexcited nerve membranes in the brain, reducing the abnormal electrical activity that causes seizures. Besides seizure control, it is also used to relieve pain associated with trigeminal neuralgia, a chronic condition affecting the facial nerve, and as an alternative option for stabilising mood in bipolar disorder when other treatments have not worked.
Take this medicine as prescribed by your doctor, at the same time each day, to maintain steady levels in the body. Do not stop taking it suddenly, as this may increase the risk of seizures.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have any history of bone marrow problems, porphyria, or glaucoma, or if you are taking other medicines, including hormonal contraceptives, as Carbamazepine may reduce their effectiveness. It is important to have regular blood tests as advised by your doctor while on this medicine.
