Tegrital CR 200 Divitab Tablet is used to manage certain types of seizures, nerve pain, and bipolar disorder by stabilising electrical activity in the brain.

This tablet can also be prescribed for mood stabilisation in bipolar disorder. It is a mental health condition where people experience extreme mood swings. This tablet can also effectively control epilepsy. It is a condition where people have recurring seizures due to abnormal brain activity.

This tablet is not helpful in diabetic, traumatic, and other forms of neuropathic pain. It is not a simple analgesic and should not be used to relieve trivial aches or pains. It is contraindicated in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to carbamazepine or related medications. Inform your doctor if you are taking any medications or have a history of depression, liver, or kidney problems, or heart disease.

The uses of Tegrital CR 200 Tablet are as follows:

Epilepsy: Epilepsy or seizures can cause different symptoms, like convulsions or loss of consciousness. This tablet helps control seizures by regulating the brain's electrical activity, reducing the frequency and intensity of seizures.
Trigeminal neuralgia: This tablet reduces facial pain by suppressing abnormal nerve signals responsible for the pain.
Manic-depressive illness (Bipolar disorder): During Bipolar disorder, individuals experience periods of high-energy mood called mania and periods of low mood called depression. This tablet is used to stabilise mood and control the symptoms of mania, such as elevated mood and impulsive behaviour. It can be an alternative to lithium for treating acute mania.

Swallow the whole tablet with a glass of water.
Do not crush or chew the tablet, as this may affect the way the medication is absorbed in the body.
Take the tablet at fixed times each day to maintain a consistent level of medication.
Do not change your tablet dose or take them more often than prescribed.

Tegrital CR 200 Tablet should be taken orally.

The common side effects of Tegrital CR 200 Tablet are:

Dizziness
Drowsiness
Problems with walking and coordination
Nausea
Vomiting
Vertigo
Double vision

Managing the Side Effects:

Most of the side effects are temporary and generally harmless which resolve on discontinuing Tegrital CR 200 Tablet. Take this medicine with food to avoid nausea. However, if you experience any serious side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

Tegrital CR 200 Tablet contains the following component:

Carbamazepine (200 mg): It is an anticonvulsant and mood stabiliser that works by regulating electrical activity in the brain and reducing abnormal firing of nerve signals that can lead to seizures in epilepsy or cause pain in trigeminal neuralgia. It also affects the activity of sodium channels in the body. It reduces the generation and transmission of electrical signals in the nerves. This happens by binding to a specific part of the sodium channels, which helps regulate their function and prevent excessive electrical activity in the brain.

Pregnancy

Tegrital CR 200 Tablet is not recommended during pregnancy due to the increased risk of congenital disabilities and other deformations in the growing foetus. Consult your doctor if you have concerns about the tablet during pregnancy.

Breastfeeding

This tablet is excreted in human milk and causes excessive drowsiness, allergic skin reaction, liver inflammation and impaired bile flow in infants. Therefore, it should be used cautiously by breastfeeding women. You should not breastfeed your infant while taking the tablet. Consult your doctor if you have concerns about the risk of the tablet while breastfeeding.

Alcohol

It is not recommended to consume alcohol while taking Tegrital CR 200 Tablet as it can further contribute to dizziness, drowsiness, and coordination difficulties caused by the medication.

Liver

Tegrital CR 200 Tablet should be cautiously used in patients with liver disease. This medication can have effects on the liver, ranging from mild increases in liver enzymes to rare cases of liver failure. In some cases, the effects on the liver may continue even after stopping the medication. Dose adjustments may be required in patients with severe liver dysfunction. If you have a severe liver problem, consult your doctor about the dose before taking the tablet.

Kidney

Patients with kidney disease should use Tegrital CR 200 Tablet cautiously, and dose adjustments may be required. It is recommended to regularly check the urine and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels for patients who are taking this medication because of observed kidney dysfunction. If you have a severe kidney problem, consult your doctor about the dose before taking the tablet.

Using Machines & Driving

If you are allergic to carbamazepine, or tricyclic antidepressants, you should not take this tablet. Read the label and check the ingredients before using the tablet to avoid allergic reactions.

Allergy

Tegrital CR 200 Tablet may cause dizziness, especially at the start of treatment, which can hamper your ability to drive and use machinery. Therefore, avoiding any attentive task is recommended after taking the tablet.

Older Patients

Older patients should cautiously use Tegrital CR 200 Tablet as they are more prone to the central nervous system and gastrointestinal disturbances due to the medication. Water retention and hyponatremia (low sodium levels) can also occur in older people because of enhanced antidiuretic hormone (ADH) action. Drug-Drug Interactions

Tegrital CR 200 Tablet may interact with the following medications:

Gastric acid reducers such as aprepitant, cimetidine, and omeprazole when taken with this tablet decrease the plasma level of this tablet.
Antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin, erythromycin, and clarithromycin, when taken with this tablet can result in a decrease in the level of antibiotics.
Synthetic androgen such as danazol when taken with this tablet can increase the risk of side effects.
Antihypertensive medications such as diltiazem, verapamil, and dihydropyridine, when taken with this tablet, can increase the chances of adverse effects.
Antidepressants such as fluoxetine, when taken with this tablet, can increase the levels of carbamazepine.
Antipsychotics such as olanzapine, when taken concomitantly, can reduce the plasma concentrations of antipsychotics.
Antihistamines such as loratadine, when taken with this tablet, can increase the chances of side effects, especially dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty in concentrating.
Skeletal muscle relaxants such as dantrolene, when taken concomitantly with this tablet, reduce the effects of skeletal muscle relaxants.
Antituberculosis agents such as isoniazid and rifampin, when taken concomitantly with this tablet, increase the effects of carbamazepine.
Antiepileptic medications such as valproate, when taken together with this tablet, can inhibit the metabolic pathways of carbamazepine.
Bronchodilators such as theophylline, when taken concomitantly, reduce the clearance of bronchodilators and decrease the exposure of carbamazepine.
Chemotherapy medications such as cisplatin, when taken together, can increase the risk of hyponatremia.
Opioid analgesics, such as methadone when taken together with this tablet, can reduce the blood levels of opioid analgesics.
Analgesic/antipyretic such as acetaminophen, when taken concomitantly with this tablet, can alter the effects of analgesic/antipyretic and increase the chances of side effects.
Antiparasitic medications such as albendazole, when taken together with this tablet, can result in reduced effectiveness of antiparasitic medications.
Benzodiazepines such as alprazolam, when taken together with this tablet, can alter the effectiveness of benzodiazepines.
Anti-inflammatory agents such as prednisolone and dexamethasone, when taken concomitantly with this tablet, decrease the exposure of anti-inflammatory agents.
Immunosuppressants such as cyclosporine, when taken with this tablet, can interfere with the metabolism of immunosuppressants.
Anticoagulants such as dicumarol and warfarin, when taken concomitantly with this tablet, can increase the metabolism of anticoagulants.
Thyroid hormone replacement medications such as levothyroxine, when taken together can decrease the effects of these medications.
Cholesterol-lowering medication such as atorvastatin when taken concomitantly with this tablet can affect the lipid levels adversely.
Hormonal contraceptives use along with this tablet can effect the working of hormonal contraceptives.

Drug-Disease Interactions

Tegrital CR 200 Tablet may interact with diseases including:

Depression: This tablet can further worsen depression.
Liver disease: This tablet can further aggravate liver disease.
Kidney dysfunction: This tablet can further worsen kidney dysfunction.
Blood dyscrasias (blood disorder): Use of this tablet in patients suffering from blood dyscrasias can further worsen this disorder.
History of porphyria: This tablet can further worsen this condition:
Hyponatremia (low sodium level in blood): Use of this tablet can further lower the sodium levels in the blood.
Psychiatric disorders: Use of this tablet in patients suffering from psychiatric diseases can further aggravate the symptoms.
Arrhythmias: This tablet can aggravate this condition.

Daily Dose

The daily dose of Tegrital CR 200 Tablet should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. The dosage may change based on individual factors such as the severity of the condition and response to treatment. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and not exceed it without consulting your doctor.

Over Dose

If you or someone else takes excessive Tegrital CR 200 Tablet by accident, rush to the nearest doctor or hospital in case you experience severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms.

Missed Dose

If you’ve forgotten to take Tegrital CR 200 Tablet take it as soon as you remember. Never increase the dosage without the doctor’s knowledge. If the time for the next dosage is close, skipping the missed one is recommended, and you resume your regular dosage pattern.
