CompositionUrimax F Capsule is used to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia, BPH) in men, such as a weak urine flow, difficulty starting and needing to pass urine often, especially at night. It is a combination medicine containing tamsulosin, an alpha blocker, and finasteride, a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor.
Tamsulosin relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck to improve urine flow quickly, while finasteride gradually shrinks the prostate over several months. Together they also lower the risk of sudden inability to pass urine and the need for prostate surgery. Take it once a day after the same meal, swallowed whole without chewing or opening the capsule.
Cutting down on fluids, caffeine and alcohol in the evening, and emptying the bladder fully before bed can help reduce night-time trips to the toilet.
This medicine is for men only. Women who are pregnant or could become pregnant must not handle broken or crushed capsules, as finasteride can harm a male unborn baby. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, low blood pressure or fainting episodes, or are due to have cataract or glaucoma surgery, and about other medicines you take. Get up slowly, as dizziness can occur. Your doctor will interpret PSA blood tests accordingly. Report breast lumps, pain or nipple discharge, and low mood. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
