Pruvict 1 Tablet is used to treat long-term (chronic) constipation in adults when other laxatives have not worked well enough. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing prucalopride 1mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called serotonin (5-HT4) receptor agonists (prokinetics).
This medicine helps the muscles of the bowel move stools along more normally, making bowel movements more regular and easier to pass. The 1mg strength is often used in older adults or people with severe kidney problems. Take it once a day, with or without food, as prescribed by your doctor; it is meant for regular use rather than occasional relief.
Drinking plenty of water, eating fibre-rich food such as fruit, vegetables and whole grains, and staying physically active can support regular bowel movements.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, heart disease or an irregular heartbeat, a bowel blockage or tear, or severe inflammatory bowel disease, and about other medicines you take. Women who could become pregnant should use effective contraception during treatment. Contact your doctor if you have severe stomach pain or persistent diarrhoea, or notice low mood or thoughts of self-harm. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
