Plecanatide (3 Mg)

Plectide Tablet 10 is used to manage chronic idiopathic constipation in adults. It belongs to the class of medicines known as guanylate cyclase-C (GC-C) agonists.

This medicine is commonly prescribed in adults with long-standing constipation associated with infrequent bowel movements, hard stools, straining during bowel movements, abdominal discomfort, bloating, and incomplete bowel evacuation, where the exact cause of constipation is not known. It may help improve bowel movement frequency, soften stools, and support easier passage of stools.

Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Inform your doctor if you have severe diarrhoea, bowel obstruction, dehydration, stomach disorders, liver disease, or kidney disease before starting treatment. This medicine should not be used in children and adolescents below 18 years of age as it may cause serious dehydration.

Plectide Tablet 10 is used to:

Manage chronic idiopathic constipation in adults
Improve bowel movement frequency
Help soften stools and reduce straining during bowel movements
Support easier stool passage in chronic constipation
Reduce symptoms associated with incomplete bowel evacuation

Follow these instructions while taking Plectide Tablet 10:

Take the tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Do not crush or chew the tablet.
It may be taken with or without food.
Continue taking the medicine regularly for the duration advised by your doctor.

Plectide Tablet 10 is taken orally.

Plectide Tablet 10 may cause side effects such as:

Diarrhoea
Abdominal bloating
Flatulence
Nausea
Upper respiratory tract infection

Management Of Side Effects:

Plecanatide (3 mg): It works locally in the intestines by activating guanylate cyclase-C receptors on the intestinal lining. This increases secretion of chloride and bicarbonate into the intestinal lumen, which helps increase intestinal fluid and improve stool movement through the bowel.

Pregnancy

Plectide Tablet 10 should be used during pregnancy only if advised by your doctor.

Breastfeeding

Consult your doctor before taking Plectide Tablet 10 while breastfeeding. It is not known whether this medicine passes into breast milk.

Alcohol

Avoid excessive alcohol intake while taking this medicine, as alcohol may worsen dehydration associated with diarrhoea.

Liver

Inform your doctor if you have liver disease before taking Plectide Tablet 10. Patients with severe liver problems may require careful monitoring during treatment.

Kidney

Inform your doctor if you have kidney problems before taking Plectide Tablet 10. Severe diarrhoea associated with treatment may worsen dehydration in patients with kidney disease.

Use In Driving And Operating Machinery

Plectide Tablet 10 does not usually affect the ability to drive or operate machinery. However, avoid such activities if you feel weak or dizzy due to diarrhoea or dehydration.

Allergy

Do not take Plectide Tablet 10 if you are allergic to plecanatide or any ingredients of this medicine. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop a rash, swelling, itching, or breathing difficulty.

Older adults may require careful monitoring during treatment, especially if severe diarrhoea or dehydration occurs.

Drug-Drug Interactions

Plectide Tablet 10 may interact with the following medicines:

Antihypertensive medicines (e.g., amlodipine, losartan): Severe diarrhoea associated with this medicine may increase the risk of dehydration and low blood pressure in some individuals taking antihypertensive medicines. Your doctor may monitor fluid status and blood pressure during treatment.
Antidiabetic medicines (e.g., insulin, metformin): Diarrhoea and reduced food intake during treatment may affect blood sugar control in some individuals. Your doctor may advise monitoring blood glucose levels if needed.

Mechanical gastrointestinal obstruction: This medicine should not be used in patients with known or suspected bowel obstruction because worsening intestinal symptoms may occur.
Severe diarrhoea or dehydration: Patients with dehydration may experience worsening fluid and electrolyte imbalance during treatment. Your doctor may temporarily stop treatment if severe diarrhoea occurs.

Daily Dose

Over Dose
