Pantodac 40 Tablet is used to manage acid reflux, heartburn and stomach ulcers by reducing the amount of acid the stomach makes. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing pantoprazole 40mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).
This medicine is also used to heal erosive oesophagitis (acid damage to the food pipe), to treat Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and, together with antibiotics, to clear Helicobacter pylori infection, a common cause of stomach ulcers. Swallow the tablet whole, without crushing or chewing, about an hour before a meal. Take it in the dose and for the duration prescribed by your doctor.
Eating smaller meals, avoiding spicy, fatty or fried food, limiting tea, coffee and alcohol, and not eating late at night can reduce acid symptoms. Keeping a healthy weight and stopping smoking may also help.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, low magnesium levels or osteoporosis, and about any other medicines you take. Long-term use may need monitoring of magnesium and vitamin B12 levels. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Contact your doctor if you have difficulty swallowing, unexplained weight loss, vomiting of blood, black stools, or persistent diarrhoea. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
