Olmetime 40 Tablet is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and in children aged 6 years and above. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing olmesartan medoxomil 40mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs).
This medicine blocks a hormone that narrows the blood vessels, allowing them to relax and widen so blood pressure falls, reducing long-term strain on the heart, brain and kidneys. The 40mg strength is the highest usual dose, used when lower doses have not been enough. Take it once a day at the same time, with or without food, and continue even when you feel well.
Reducing salt, staying active, keeping a healthy weight, limiting alcohol and not smoking support blood pressure control.
Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, as it can harm an unborn baby; tell your doctor straight away if you become pregnant. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, narrowing of the kidney arteries, high potassium, heart valve disease or dehydration, and about other medicines you take, especially potassium supplements, water tablets or painkillers. Your doctor may check your kidney function and potassium. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Contact your doctor if you develop severe, long-lasting diarrhoea with weight loss, even months or years after starting, as this can rarely be caused by olmesartan, or if you feel faint. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
