CompositionMycept 500 Tablet is used to prevent the body from rejecting a transplanted kidney, heart or liver. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing mycophenolate mofetil 500mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called immunosuppressants.
This medicine reduces the activity of the immune cells that would otherwise attack the new organ. It is used together with other anti-rejection medicines, such as ciclosporin or tacrolimus and steroids. Take it on an empty stomach at the same times each day, exactly as prescribed, and never change your dose without advice from your transplant team.
Because this medicine increases the risk of skin cancer, protect your skin from sunlight with clothing and a high-factor sunscreen. Good hand hygiene and avoiding people with infections help reduce infection risk.
This medicine can cause miscarriage and serious birth defects. Women who could become pregnant need pregnancy tests and must use effective contraception before, during and for 6 weeks after treatment; men should use condoms during treatment and for 90 days afterwards. Do not donate blood or sperm during treatment. It lowers your resistance to infection and can affect blood counts, so your team will check your blood regularly. Before starting, tell your doctor about any infections, stomach or bowel problems, and all other medicines you take, especially antacids and iron, which should be taken at a different time. Seek urgent help for fever, sore throat, unusual bruising or bleeding, or new skin changes. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
