Mahacort DZ Suspension is used to treat Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) in children, helping maintain muscle strength for longer. It is also used to manage autoimmune conditions such as lupus, autoimmune hepatitis, and sarcoidosis, as well as joint and muscle diseases, severe allergies, asthma, and certain cancers.
It contains deflazacort, a corticosteroid. The dose depends on the condition being treated and the child's weight, so give it exactly as prescribed. Do not stop it suddenly, as the dose usually needs to be reduced gradually under your child's doctor's guidance.
A balanced diet with adequate calcium and vitamin D, limiting added salt to reduce fluid retention, and staying active as advised by your child's doctor can help support your child's health while taking this medicine.
Tell the doctor about any infections, diabetes, or stomach problems before starting, and about other medicines being taken. Report signs of infection, severe stomach pain, mood changes, or unusual swelling to the doctor promptly.
