Imiquad Cream is a skin cream used to treat external genital and perianal warts, small superficial basal cell carcinomas and actinic keratosis (sun-damage related precancerous patches). It is a single-ingredient medicine containing imiquimod, and belongs to a class of medicines called immune response modifiers.
This medicine works by encouraging your own immune system to recognise and clear the abnormal skin cells, rather than acting directly on the skin. Apply it to the affected area as prescribed and follow the application and washing schedule your doctor gives you. It helps clear visible lesions and may reduce the chance of them coming back.
Keeping the treated area clean and dry, avoiding sun exposure on the treated skin and not covering it with airtight dressings can help the treatment work as intended.
Before using this medicine, tell your doctor if you have an autoimmune condition, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have had a skin reaction to imiquimod before. Contact your doctor if you develop severe skin irritation or ulceration, or if the lesion does not improve after the prescribed course.
