Fluvir Capsule is used to treat influenza (flu) caused by influenza A and B viruses. It may also be prescribed to prevent influenza following close contact with an infected person. It contains oseltamivir as its active ingredient and belongs to the class of medicines called neuraminidase inhibitors.
This medicine helps shorten the duration of influenza symptoms, including fever, body aches, cough, sore throat and tiredness, when treatment is started early. It is most effective when started within 48 hours of symptom onset, although patients with severe illness, hospitalisation or a high risk of complications may benefit from treatment even when started later. It may also be prescribed after exposure to influenza to reduce the risk of infection. Take the capsule according to your doctor's instructions and complete the prescribed course.
Adequate rest, hydration and a balanced diet may support recovery from influenza. Covering your mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing, washing your hands frequently and avoiding close contact with others while infectious can help reduce transmission. Annual influenza vaccination remains an important preventive measure.
Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, a history of allergic reactions to oseltamivir or any other medical condition. Tell your doctor about other medicines, supplements and recent vaccinations, particularly the live attenuated influenza vaccine. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Report severe skin reactions, unusual behaviour, confusion or other serious symptoms immediately. Do not stop taking the medicine without medical advice.
