CompositionAtocor 40 Tablet is used to lower high cholesterol in adults at high risk of heart disease, including people who have had a heart attack or stroke, and in inherited high cholesterol. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing atorvastatin 40mg, a higher-strength statin.
This strength is often used when a large reduction in LDL (bad) cholesterol is needed, such as after a heart attack or in familial hypercholesterolaemia. It lowers LDL cholesterol and triglycerides and raises HDL (good) cholesterol. Take it once a day at the same time, with or without food, and continue as prescribed.
A heart-healthy diet low in saturated fat, regular activity, keeping a healthy weight and not smoking help protect your heart alongside this medicine.
Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, an underactive thyroid, kidney problems, muscle problems, diabetes, or drink a lot of alcohol, and about other medicines you take, especially certain antibiotics, antifungals, HIV medicines, ciclosporin and other cholesterol medicines. Your doctor may check your liver with blood tests. The risk of muscle side effects is higher at higher doses. Report unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness, especially with fever or dark urine, straight away. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
