Alfusin D Tablet 10 is used to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia, BPH) in men, such as a weak urine flow, difficulty starting to pass urine, and needing to pass urine often, especially at night. It is a combination medicine containing alfuzosin, an alpha blocker, and dutasteride, a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor.
Alfuzosin relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck to improve urine flow quickly, while dutasteride gradually shrinks the prostate over several months. This combination also lowers the risk of sudden inability to pass urine and the need for prostate surgery. Take it after the same meal each day, swallowed whole, as prescribed.
Reducing fluids in the evening, cutting down on caffeine and alcohol, and emptying your bladder fully can help reduce night-time trips to the toilet.
This medicine is for men only. Women, especially if pregnant or who could become pregnant, and children must not handle broken or leaking tablets, as dutasteride can be absorbed through the skin. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, low blood pressure, a heart rhythm problem, or are planning cataract surgery, and about other medicines you take. Do not donate blood during treatment and for 6 months after. Your doctor will interpret PSA blood tests accordingly. Get up slowly, as dizziness can occur. Report breast lumps, pain or nipple discharge. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
