Af 400 Tablet 1

AF 400 Tablet is used for fungal infections caused by organisms susceptible to fluconazole.

Uses of AF 400 Tablet are:

• Systemic Fungal Infections: Treats selected serious fungal infections under medical supervision.
• Candida Infections: Treats susceptible Candida infections at appropriate body sites.
• Cryptococcal Infection: May be used for cryptococcal infections when prescribed by a specialist.

Here's how you should take Af 400 Tablet 1:

• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
• Do not crush or chew the tablet.
• You can take this medicine with or without food.
• Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor, even if symptoms improve.
• Avoid taking antacids within 2 hours before or after this medication.

Af 400 Tablet 1 is taken orally.

Af 400 Tablet 1 contains fluconazole (400 mg). This active ingredient works in the body as follows:

• Inhibits Cytochrome P450 enzyme: Fluconazole works by blocking a specific enzyme called cytochrome P450 14α-demethylase in the fungi. This enzyme plays a crucial role in converting lanosterol to ergosterol, which is an important part of the fungal cell membrane.
• Disrupts cell membrane synthesis: By hindering the activity of cytochrome P450 14α-demethylase, fluconazole effectively disrupts the synthesis of ergosterol. This disruption leads to increased fungal membrane permeability, causing leakage of cellular contents and eventually leading to the death of the fungal cell. This action helps to manage the fungal infection by preventing further growth of the fungi.
