Topp-40 Tablet is used to manage gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition where stomach acid flows back into the food pipe (oesophagus), causing heartburn and irritation. It belongs to the group of medicines known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).
Besides managing GERD, this tablet helps maintain the healing of erosive oesophagitis, an inflammation that damages the lower food pipe, and is also used to manage conditions where the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Take it as prescribed by your doctor, usually before a meal, and swallow the tablet whole without crushing or chewing.
Avoiding spicy, oily and acidic foods, eating smaller meals, not lying down immediately after eating, and reducing tea, coffee and alcohol intake can help ease reflux symptoms alongside this medicine.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor about any existing liver problems or other medicines you are taking. Tell your doctor if you experience persistent stomach pain, black stools, or unexplained weight loss, as these may need further evaluation. Continue taking the medicine for as long as prescribed, even if your symptoms improve.
