Zonamax ES Injection is used to treat serious bacterial infections, including those that resist other antibiotics, such as infections of the chest, urinary tract, abdomen, blood and the covering of the brain (meningitis).
It contains cefoperazone, a cephalosporin antibiotic, and sulbactam, which protects it from the enzymes some bacteria use to resist it. Together they kill a broad range of bacteria.
It is given as an injection by a doctor in hospital, who sets the dose and course. Avoid alcohol during treatment and for a few days after.
Tell your doctor about any allergy to penicillin or cephalosporins, or any kidney problems, before use. As it can affect blood clotting, report unusual bruising or bleeding, and any rash or severe diarrhoea.
