Zithrox 500 Tablet is an antibiotic medicine used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. It is commonly prescribed for infections of the respiratory tract, including pneumonia, bronchitis, tonsillitis, and sinusitis, as well as infections of the ears, throat, skin, and certain sexually transmitted diseases.
It contains azithromycin, which belongs to a class of medicines known as macrolide antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria, thereby clearing the infection and relieving your symptoms. It is only effective against bacterial infections and will not work for viral infections like the common cold or flu.
It can be taken with or without food, but it is best to take it at the same time each day for consistent effects. Always complete the full course of treatment exactly as prescribed by your doctor, even if you start to feel better early. Stopping the medicine too soon may allow the bacteria to continue growing and cause the infection to return.
Before starting this medicine, tell your doctor if you have any liver or kidney problems, a history of heart rhythm disorders, or low levels of potassium in your blood. Inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, as interactions can occur. It should be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if clearly needed and advised by your doctor.
