It contains atenolol, a beta-blocker that slows the heart rate and reduces the force of the heartbeat, and chlorthalidone, a diuretic that helps the kidneys remove excess fluid from the body. Take it as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking it suddenly, as this may cause your blood pressure to rise quickly, which can be dangerous, particularly if you have underlying heart disease.
Dietary changes that support blood pressure management include reducing your salt intake, eating a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, and limiting alcohol. Your doctor may also recommend regular blood pressure checks during treatment.
