Tacvido Ointment 20gm is used to manage moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults. It contains tacrolimus, a calcineurin inhibitor from the macrolide class of immunosuppressive medicines, and is generally prescribed when other treatments have not worked well or are unsuitable.
Tacrolimus works by calming an overactive immune response in the skin, which reduces the inflammation, redness and itching that occur in eczema, without the thinning effects associated with long-term steroid use.
Apply a thin layer to the affected skin as prescribed as your doctor directs, gently rubbing it in until absorbed, and wash your hands afterwards unless the hands are being treated. Use only on affected areas and avoid covering the skin tightly (occlusive dressings) unless advised.
Avoid excessive sun exposure and use sun protection on treated areas, as the skin may become more sensitive to sunlight. Tell your doctor if the treated skin shows signs of infection, such as increasing redness, warmth or pus, and avoid applying to broken or infected skin.
