Sevista 60 Tablet is used to treat heavy or irregular bleeding from the womb (dysfunctional uterine bleeding) in women before the menopause, and may also be prescribed to prevent pregnancy. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing ormeloxifene 60mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called selective oestrogen receptor modulators (SERMs).
This medicine is non-hormonal and non-steroidal. It acts on the womb lining, making it thinner and reducing heavy bleeding, and it also prevents a fertilised egg from implanting. For bleeding problems it is usually taken twice a week for about 12 weeks and then once a week, exactly as your gynaecologist directs. Take it on the same days each week.
Eating iron-rich foods such as green leafy vegetables, pulses and jaggery, and taking iron supplements if prescribed, help restore blood levels after heavy periods. Keep a record of your periods to share with your doctor.
Periods may be delayed or become lighter while taking this medicine; if a period is more than 15 days late, do a pregnancy test. Do not take it if you are pregnant, have polycystic ovaries or ovarian cysts, liver disease or recent jaundice, severe kidney disease, tuberculosis, or cervical changes not yet checked. Some antibiotics, such as tetracyclines, may reduce its contraceptive effect, so use condoms during antibiotic treatment. It does not protect against sexually transmitted infections. Contact your doctor if you have very heavy bleeding, severe tummy pain or yellowing of the skin or eyes. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
