Rexcof DX Plus Syrup is used to relieve a dry, irritating cough along with cold and allergy symptoms such as a blocked or runny nose, sneezing and watery eyes. It is a combination medicine containing dextromethorphan (a cough suppressant), chlorpheniramine maleate (an antihistamine) and phenylephrine (a nasal decongestant).
Dextromethorphan calms the urge to cough, chlorpheniramine eases sneezing and a runny nose, and phenylephrine reduces swelling inside the nose. It is meant for a dry cough, not a chesty cough with a lot of mucus. Measure each dose with the cup provided and take it as prescribed by your doctor, for the shortest time needed.
Drinking warm fluids, steam inhalation and resting can help ease cold symptoms. Avoid smoke and dust, which can make a cough worse.
This medicine must not be given to children below 4 years of age, and should only be given to older children on a doctor's advice. Before taking it, tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, an overactive thyroid, diabetes, glaucoma, difficulty passing urine, asthma or liver disease, and about other medicines you take, especially antidepressants and other cold or cough remedies. It commonly causes drowsiness, so avoid driving and alcohol. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Contact your doctor if you have a fast heartbeat, or if the cough lasts more than a week or comes with a high fever. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
