CompositionRanogard Tablet is used as an add-on treatment to prevent chest pain in adults with long-term stable angina when other angina medicines are not enough or are not suitable. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing ranolazine 500mg in an extended-release form, and belongs to a class of medicines called anti-anginal agents.
This medicine helps the heart muscle use energy more efficiently when blood flow is reduced, lowering how often angina attacks happen, without much effect on heart rate or blood pressure. It does not relieve an attack that has already started. Take it daily, with or without food, swallowed whole without crushing or chewing.
Not smoking, eating a heart-healthy diet, staying active within your limits and controlling blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar help protect your heart. Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice.
Ranolazine can affect the heart's electrical rhythm and interacts with many medicines. Do not take it if you have liver cirrhosis, severe kidney disease, or are taking certain antifungals, antibiotics such as clarithromycin, HIV medicines or rifampicin. Before starting, tell your doctor about any heart rhythm problem, kidney disease and all other medicines you take, especially simvastatin, metformin, digoxin and ciclosporin, as doses may need changing. Your doctor may check your kidney function and heart tracing. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Seek medical help for fainting, palpitations, severe dizziness or worsening chest pain. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
