Parkitidin Tablet is used to treat the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, such as stiffness, shaking and slowness of movement. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing amantadine, which belongs to a class of medicines called antiparkinsonian agents.
This medicine increases dopamine activity in the brain and is also used to reduce uncontrolled movements (dyskinesia) caused by long-term levodopa treatment, and movement side effects caused by some other medicines. Take it as prescribed, usually in the morning and early afternoon, as a late dose can disturb sleep.
Regular exercise, physiotherapy and a consistent daily routine help maintain mobility. Getting up slowly can reduce dizziness on standing.
Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly, as symptoms can worsen sharply and a serious reaction with fever and stiffness can occur. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, heart failure, epilepsy, glaucoma, eczema, or a history of mental health problems, and about other medicines you take. It can cause dizziness, blurred vision and confusion, so do not drive if affected, and avoid alcohol. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Contact your doctor if you notice hallucinations, confusion, low mood, thoughts of self-harm, ankle swelling, or urges such as gambling that are hard to control. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
