Osteofos 70 Tablet is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in adults, including postmenopausal women, men and people on long-term steroids. It is a single-ingredient bisphosphonate medicine containing alendronic acid.
This medicine helps maintain bone strength and reduce the risk of fractures, and is also used for Paget's disease of bone. It is taken once a week, not daily. Take it on an empty stomach with a full glass of plain water at least 30 minutes before food or other medicines, and stay sitting or standing for at least 30 minutes afterwards.
A diet rich in calcium and vitamin D, regular weight-bearing exercise, quitting smoking, limiting alcohol and taking steps to prevent falls support bone health alongside this medicine.
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have swallowing problems, food pipe (oesophagus) disease, kidney problems or dental problems, and about all other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take. Report new or worsening pain in the jaw, hip or thigh, or difficulty swallowing. Follow the prescribed dose, frequency and duration, report persistent or serious side effects, and do not stop the medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
