CompositionNovastat 20 Tablet is used to lower high cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing rosuvastatin 20mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called statins.
This medicine reduces the cholesterol made by the liver, lowering LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides and modestly raising HDL (good) cholesterol. It is also used to protect people at high risk of heart disease, even when cholesterol is only moderately raised. Take it once a day at the same time, with or without food, and keep taking it even when you feel well.
A diet low in saturated fat, regular physical activity, keeping a healthy weight, limiting alcohol and not smoking support better cholesterol levels.
Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, an underactive thyroid, muscle problems, diabetes, or drink a lot of alcohol, and about other medicines you take, especially ciclosporin, fibrates, blood thinners and HIV medicines. People of Asian origin may have higher blood levels of rosuvastatin, so the dose is chosen carefully. Your doctor may check your liver and cholesterol with blood tests. Report unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness, especially with fever or dark urine, straight away. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
