Mexate 15 Tablet 4 is used to manage severe rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis, to treat severe psoriasis, and to treat certain types of cancer including leukaemia, lymphoma, and breast and lung cancer. It is also used for ankylosing spondylitis with peripheral joint involvement.
It contains methotrexate, an antimetabolite and immunosuppressant. For autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis, it is taken once a week. It is often taken with folic acid to reduce side effects. Take it as directed by your doctor, at the same time and day each week.
Regular blood tests to monitor blood counts, liver and kidney function are essential during treatment.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, as methotrexate must not be used in pregnancy and requires effective contraception during treatment and for a period afterwards. Tell your doctor about any kidney, liver or lung problems, and about other medicines you take. Report mouth sores, unusual bruising, breathlessness, or a new cough.
