Once inside the microbial cell, metronidazole transforms into an active metabolite that damages bacterial DNA and inhibits nucleic acid synthesis, leading to cell death. Its action is bactericidal against susceptible anaerobes.
• Povidone Iodine (10%): This iodophore complex slowly releases iodine when applied to the skin. The released iodine oxidises proteins critical for cell survival and replication, effectively killing bacteria, fungi, protozoans, and viruses. At higher concentrations, it also has some sporicidal activity.
