• Binds to Penicillin-Binding Proteins: Cefpodoxime attaches itself to certain proteins called penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are found inside bacterial cell walls.
• Inhibits Cell Wall Synthesis: By binding to these PBPs, cefpodoxime halts a vital step in the formation of bacterial cell walls, called transpeptidation.
• Causes Cell Wall Lysis: Once cell wall synthesis is inhibited, the bacterial cell wall becomes weak and breaks apart a process known as 'lysis'. This leads to the death of the bacteria.
