Levoquin 500 Tablet is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections affecting the lungs, sinuses, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues, such as pneumonia, bronchitis and complicated urinary tract infections. It contains levofloxacin, which belongs to a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones.
Take this tablet whole with a glass of water, with or without food. Complete the full course exactly as prescribed, even if you feel better, to prevent the infection returning and reduce the risk of resistance.
Avoid excessive sun or UV light, such as sunbeds, as this medicine can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Leave a gap of a few hours between this tablet and any antacids, calcium or iron supplements, as they can reduce absorption.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have a history of tendon problems, seizures, or kidney disease. Tell your doctor promptly if you notice tendon pain or swelling, as fluoroquinolones can rarely cause tendon damage. This medicine is not usually recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
