Latoprost Eye Drop is used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It contains Latanoprost, a prostaglandin analogue that works by increasing the natural outflow of aqueous humour (fluid) from the eye. By effectively lowering and maintaining stable eye pressure, this medication helps protect the optic nerve from damage, which is crucial in preventing progressive vision loss and long-term complications.
For the medication to be effective, it must be used consistently at the same time every day, typically in the evening. Consistent application is essential for long-term eye health, as stopping the drops abruptly can lead to a dangerous spike in eye pressure. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting. Inform your doctor if you notice any changes in eye color or eyelash growth, which are known localized effects of this treatment.
