It is a combination medicine containing empagliflozin, which helps the body pass extra sugar in the urine, and sitagliptin, which helps the body release more insulin after meals, and belongs to a class of medicines called antidiabetics.
This medicine works by letting the kidneys remove extra sugar through the urine and by increasing the body's own insulin response, which together lower blood sugar. Maintaining good blood sugar levels helps prevent or delay problems such as heart disease, kidney damage, nerve problems and vision loss. Take it as prescribed and use the dose your doctor prescribes.
A healthy diet and regular exercise work together with this treatment. Drink enough fluids, keep the genital area clean and dry, and check your blood sugar as your doctor advises.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, a history of pancreatitis, type 1 diabetes, or frequent urinary or genital infections, and about all other medicines you take. Seek urgent medical help if you have severe stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, unusual tiredness or fast breathing, or signs of dehydration.
