Gluconorm P 15 Tablet is used for the following:

Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus
Control of high blood sugar levels
Improving insulin sensitivity in the body
Second-line treatment when single medicines fail
Decreasing glucose production in the liver
Enhancing peripheral glucose uptake and utilisation
Regulating glucose metabolism
Regulating lipid metabolism

Gluconorm P 15 Tablet may have the following common side effects:

Headache
Diarrhoea
Abdominal pain
Myalgia: This refers to muscle pain or aching that can occur in any part of your body.
Sinusitis: This is inflammation of the sinuses, causing pain and pressure around your nose, eyes, and forehead.
Upper respiratory tract infection
Oedema: This is swelling caused by fluid build-up in the body tissues, often noticeable in the ankles, feet, and legs.
Weight gain

Management Of Side Effects:

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless, which resolve on discontinuing the use of Gluconorm P 15 Tablet. However, if you experience any serious side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

Diarrhoea: Try taking Gluconorm P 15 Tablet with meals to reduce the likelihood of this side effect.
Abdominal pain: Taking this medicine after food rather than on an empty stomach may help minimise stomach discomfort.

Gluconorm P 15 Tablet contains two active ingredients that work together to control blood sugar:

Metformin (500 mg): As an antidiabetic agent, metformin decreases the amount of glucose your liver produces and improves how your body responds to insulin, helping muscle cells use glucose more effectively.
Pioglitazone (15 mg): This component activates special receptors called peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) in your body. These receptors help control the genes involved in glucose and fat metabolism, improving insulin sensitivity in fat tissues, muscles, and the liver.

Pregnancy

Gluconorm P 15 Tablet is not recommended during pregnancy, especially during the second and third trimesters. If you are pregnant or planning to conceive, make sure to discuss this with your doctor before starting this medicine.

Breastfeeding

Caution is advised while taking Gluconorm P 15 Tablet if you are breastfeeding. Metformin, one of the ingredients, passes into breast milk. It is best to consult your doctor before taking this medicine, as they can help weigh the benefits against potential risks to your baby.

Alcohol

Avoid alcohol while taking Gluconorm P 15 Tablet. Drinking alcohol with this medicine may increase your risk of developing lactic acidosis (a dangerous build-up of acid in your blood) and can affect your blood sugar control.

Liver

Kidney

Use In Driving And Operating Machinery

You may drive and use machines while taking Gluconorm P 15 Tablet unless you experience dizziness or low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia). If you notice these effects, avoid driving or operating complex machinery until you feel better.

Allergy

Do not take Gluconorm P 15 Tablet if you have a known allergy to metformin, pioglitazone, or any other ingredients in this medicine. Tell your doctor about any previous allergic reactions to medicines before starting treatment.

Children

Gluconorm P 15 Tablet is not recommended for children under 18 years of age. The safety and effectiveness of this medicine have not been established in children.

Older Patients

Older patients should take Gluconorm P 15 Tablet under medical supervision. If you are elderly, you may be more prone to side effects, including lactic acidosis, heart failure, and bone fractures. Your doctor may start you on a lower dose and monitor you more closely.

Drug-Drug Interactions

Gluconorm P 15 Tablet can interact with the following medicines:

CYP2C8 Inhibitors: Medicines like gemfibrozil may increase pioglitazone concentrations in your blood, raising the risk of side effects. Dose reduction might be necessary.
CYP2C8 Inducers: Medicines like rifampin can decrease pioglitazone levels, potentially reducing the effectiveness of Gluconorm P 15 Tablet.
Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitors: Medicines such as topiramate and zonisamide may increase your risk of lactic acidosis (a serious condition where lactic acid builds up in your blood) when taken with metformin.
Corticosteroids: Medicines like prednisolone and dexamethasone can raise your blood sugar levels, potentially reducing the effectiveness of Gluconorm P 15 Tablet.

Drug-Disease Interactions

Gluconorm P 15 Tablet may interact with the following diseases:

Heart failure: Pioglitazone can cause fluid retention and worsen heart failure, especially in patients with NYHA Class III or IV heart failure.
Bladder cancer: Pioglitazone may increase the risk of bladder cancer. It should not be used if you have active bladder cancer.

Daily Dose

The daily dose of Gluconorm P 15 Tablet should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. The dosage may vary based on your blood sugar levels and how well your body responds to the medicine. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

Over Dose

Taking too much of this medicine may cause low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia), stomach discomfort, nausea, or swelling in your legs and ankles. Contact your doctor if you experience these symptoms after taking an extra dose.

Missed Dose

If you forget to take Gluconorm P 15 Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Never double your dose.
