Fosfona Sachet 8gm is used to treat uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs), such as acute cystitis (bladder infection), in women. It is a single-ingredient antibiotic containing fosfomycin tromethamine.
It works against bacteria that commonly cause UTIs, such as Escherichia coli and Enterococcus faecalis, and is not used for kidney infections. It comes as a powder to be dissolved in water before taking, in the dose, frequency and duration prescribed by your doctor. Complete the full course even if symptoms improve.
Drink plenty of water, pass urine regularly instead of holding it and keep the genital area clean to help clear the infection.
It should not be used by people with kidney disease or those on haemodialysis. Before starting, tell your doctor about your medical conditions, and about all other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take. Follow the prescribed dose, frequency and duration, report persistent or serious side effects, and do not stop the medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
