Encorate 200mg/5mL Syrup is used to prevent and manage various types of seizures in adults and children with epilepsy, to help stabilise mood in the manic phase of bipolar disorder, and to help prevent migraine headaches. It contains sodium valproate.
Sodium valproate works by increasing levels of a calming brain chemical called GABA and steadying abnormal electrical activity in the brain, which reduces seizure frequency, helps stabilise mood in mania, and lowers the frequency of migraine attacks with regular use.
Take this syrup using the measuring cup provided, at the same time each day, exactly as your child's doctor prescribes.
This medicine must not be used in pregnancy, as it carries a high risk of birth defects and developmental problems in an unborn baby; women of childbearing potential need specific counselling and contraception advice before starting treatment. Do not stop this medicine suddenly, as this can trigger seizures; report unusual bruising, bleeding, persistent vomiting, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
