CompositionEpival Solution is used to manage complex partial seizures, either alone or with other seizure types. It is a single-ingredient anticonvulsant medicine containing sodium valproate.
This medicine is also used to help stabilise mood in bipolar disorder and to lower how often migraine attacks occur with regular use. Take it using the measuring cup provided, at a regular time, in the dose, frequency and duration prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop it suddenly, as this can trigger seizures.
Keep a regular sleep routine, take meals on time and avoid alcohol, as these support seizure control. Weight gain can occur, so keep portions moderate.
Before starting, tell your doctor about any liver problems, and about all other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take. This medicine carries a high risk of birth defects in an unborn baby, so women who could become pregnant need reliable contraception before starting. Report unusual bruising or bleeding, persistent vomiting, or yellowing of the skin or eyes promptly. Follow the prescribed dose, frequency and duration, report persistent or serious side effects, and do not stop the medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
