CompositionDoxicip Injection 1 is an antibiotic used to treat a range of bacterial infections, including chest, skin and other infections, and infections such as scrub typhus, leptospirosis and traveller's diarrhoea. It is also used to help prevent malaria.
It contains doxycycline, a tetracycline antibiotic. It works by stopping bacteria making the proteins they need to grow, which lets the body clear the infection.
It is given by injection as prescribed, and the full course is completed as prescribed. When taken by mouth, doxycycline is taken with plenty of water while sitting or standing.
It is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for children under eight, as it can affect developing teeth and bones. It can increase sensitivity to sunlight, so use sun protection.
