Doxycycline is used for the management of bacterial infections caused by susceptible bacteria. This medicine belongs to the tetracycline class of antibiotics.
It is also indicated for respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin infections, sexually transmitted infections, acne, eye infections, periodontal infections, and certain infections and for malaria prophylaxis.

This medicine is available for oral use in the form of tablets, capsules, and syrup. It is also available as an injection.
This medicine is intended for use in adults and children above 8 years of age, as advised by the doctor.
This medicine is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Doxycycline, tetracycline antibiotics, or any of the excipients. It is also contraindicated in pregnant women, breastfeeding women, and children below 8 years of age unless specifically advised by the doctor.
This medicine may interact with antacids containing aluminium, calcium, or magnesium, iron supplements, anticoagulants (warfarin), anticonvulsants (phenytoin and carbamazepine), isotretinoin, penicillin antibiotics, and oral contraceptives. These medicines may reduce the effectiveness of Doxycycline or increase the risk of side effects.
Overdose of this medicine may cause severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, liver-related problems, and irritation of the oesophagus. Immediate medical attention may be required if these symptoms occur.
If you forget to take this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue the regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose.
Most side effects are temporary, mild, and usually resolve after discontinuation of the medicine. However, if you experience severe diarrhoea, allergic reactions, or worsening of any symptoms, consult your doctor. Taking this medicine with adequate water and avoiding lying down immediately after administration may help reduce stomach and food pipe irritation.
This medicine may occasionally cause dizziness or blurred vision in some individuals. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you experience these symptoms.
This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless clearly advised by your doctor.
Caution is advised in patients with liver impairment, kidney problems, autoimmune disorders, oesophageal disorders, or a history of photosensitivity reactions.
Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight or ultraviolet light and use protective clothing or sunscreen while using this medicine.
Take this medicine with a full glass of water and remain upright for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour after taking.
Avoid taking dairy products, antacids, or iron supplements close to the dosing time, as they may reduce absorption.
