Defcort TM Capsule is used to relieve urinary symptoms in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (an enlarged prostate gland). It is a combination medicine containing deflazacort (a corticosteroid) and tamsulosin (an alpha-blocker).
It helps ease difficulty in passing urine, improves urine flow and reduces the urgent and frequent need to pass urine. Take it after a meal, at around the same time each day, in the dose, frequency and duration prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop it suddenly, as treatment containing a steroid needs careful medical supervision.
Limiting fluids before bedtime, cutting down on tea, coffee and alcohol, and not holding urine for long periods can help ease urinary symptoms during treatment.
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure, diabetes, a stomach ulcer, kidney or liver problems or planned eye surgery such as cataract surgery, and about all other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take. Tell your doctor promptly if you notice signs of infection, persistent dizziness, marked weight gain or mood changes. Follow the prescribed dose, frequency and duration, report persistent or serious side effects, and do not stop the medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
