Broxum D Syrup 100ml is a cough and cold syrup used to relieve cough with congestion, nasal blockage and throat irritation in children during colds and respiratory infections. It is a combination medicine containing chlorpheniramine (an antihistamine that relieves allergy-type symptoms), dextromethorphan (a cough suppressant) and phenylephrine (a decongestant), and belongs to a class of medicines called cough and cold combinations.
This medicine works by reducing allergy-type symptoms such as a runny nose, easing a blocked nose by narrowing swollen blood vessels in the nasal passages, and calming the cough reflex to ease a dry cough. Give it at the dose and frequency your child's doctor advises, using the measuring device provided.
Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids and rest while recovering from a cold, as this helps ease symptoms alongside the syrup. The syrup may cause drowsiness, so keep your child away from activities that need alertness until you know how it affects them.
Before giving this medicine, tell your child's doctor about any other conditions your child has and any other medicines your child takes. It is not recommended for children under 4 years of age unless the doctor specifically advises it. Report any troublesome side effects to your child's doctor.
